Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
