Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
