The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and satisfy the hearts of followers with niche passions.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
