An extensive extended cruise through Australia is being halted following the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a isolated coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned several hours later after the personnel became aware the passenger was not present.

An extensive rescue mission found her remains the next day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. The tropical location was the first stop on the itinerary.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of currency to join the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of walking or snorkeling.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "stunned and saddened that the vessel left the location after an scheduled tour without my mother".

In her statement, she described her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a walking group.

"According to scant details we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and basic judgment," she said.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the company should have done that might have protected Mum's being".

"According to reports from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum fell ill on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"They requested her to go back, unescorted. Then the ship sailed away, seemingly without performing a roll call.

"At some stage in that process, or soon after, mum succumbed, without company."

Company Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive affirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with authorities to aid their examination".

He stated that the company was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had offered its complete assistance to the family.

Maritime Business Procedures

The liner serves up to one hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty crew, according to official information. It was specially constructed to access remote regions of the Australian shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to transport travelers on day excursions.

Occurrences such as this are uncommon, and cruise ships have procedures to record which individuals are boarding or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] on the ship simply isn't an option," an authority commented.

Shipping companies consider these methods extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to stop such events from taking place," the authority further stated.

"This appears to be most likely a shocking - and sad - single occurrence."
